St. Joseph School has filled the three teaching positions vacated by Mrs. Laprise, Mrs. Yakstis, and Mrs. Lajoie. The sixteen students in her class are experiencing a student centered/activity based form of education.
Many of the St.. Joseph School Community are already familiar with the new 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Vargas. She was born and raised in California but came to the east to attend Villanova University. After graduating, she moved to and fell in love with Northeastern Connecticut. She started as a St. Joseph School volunteer in Pre-K, substitute teacher, and later became the Title 1 Reading and Math Instructor. Her daughter, an alumnus of St. Joseph School, is now attending Assumption College. She anticipates a terrific year with her fourteen students!
6th grade teacher, Mrs. Lovrien, has lived in Northeast Connecticut most of her life. She has three children, ages 11,7 1/2, and 3. They have three Cavaliers, 5 two week old puppies, a cat, and a multitude of other barnyard friends. After attending a local high school, Mrs. Lovrien studied Theatre in Ohio and completed her degree at Southern CT State University. After graduating, she taught pre-school for many years then moved to California. She later attended the University of Hawaii where she studied Child Psychology, and moved to CT where she taught at the Joshua Center for Natchaus Hospital. She received her certification and Masters at Sacred Heart University. She then taught in Lebanon for the Talented Gifted Program to grades 1-6. She has been at home for the last three years enjoying her children.
St. Joseph School is privileged and blessed to have these teachers added to our already talented group of instructors.
